Starbroyds
My name is Sarah and I am in Year 3 at Dobroyd Point Public School. We have a fundraising and community awareness group called Starbroyds which anyone from Kindergarten to Year 6 can join. I joined Starbroyds when I was in Year 1 because I really like to help other people and wanted to know how I could do more.
Starbroyds is voluntary and we usually meet every week at lunch times in Mrs McLennan's classroom. She encourages us to think of different ways we can help people in our community and in other countries.
I'm proud to be a member of Starbroyds because it has helped all of us understand that some people need help from their community and we have been able to help in small ways by fundraising and volunteering our time. The Starbroyds members work as a team and we discuss ideas and vote for the types of activities we would like to do. It feels good to know that we are helping other people and making a difference in their lives. Personally, Starbroyds has given me the confidence to speak with many different people, especially when meeting them for the first time. It has also helped me understand more about the wider community.
