Sports & physical activity

We have physical activity programs for children from Kindergarten to Year 6, with a focus on fundamental movement skills.

Sport and physical activity is a valued and accepted part of our school's curriculum, contributing to the development of the whole child. It provides a vehicle for social, physical, emotional and moral learning and is an important expression of our culture.

The participation, enjoyment and skill development of our students is the corner-stone of the school sport/ physical activity program. All our students take part in this program.

There are also opportunities to represent our school at inter-school sports competitions. As a NSW public school we benefit from the opportunities for shared activities and competitions with other schools, coordinated by school sport associations. See the Premier's sporting challenge for details.

At Dobroyd Point Public School we recognise that sport is an integral part of the physical and social development of children. Therefore, we offer a wide range of sports and activities that allow students to develop their gross motor skills in a supportive environment with an emphasis on having fun. Activities occur during PE lessons either in stage or class groups and during school sport.

We also have a proud tradition of fielding competitive teams in a wide range of sporting activities.

Sporting opportunities available to students include:

Infants

Our programs allow children the opportunity to establish their basic gross motor skills before embarking on a range of team sports.

Infant school sport takes place on Monday for year 2, and Fridays for Kindergarten and Year 1.

Primary

All students in Years 3-6 will be given the opportunity to try out for inter-school competitive sport teams which will compete in the Western Suburbs Zone PSSA competition. See the PSSA Sport page for more information.

Students who are not selected in a PSSA team will take part in sport at school. They will be given the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of sports and participate in non-competitive and competitive games.

School sport takes place on Friday afternoons from 12:30p.m. to 1.50 p.m, for Years 3-6.
