National Year of Reading
On 14 February 2012 there were celebrations all around Australia to welcome the start of the National Year of Reading. Here at Dobroyd Point Public School we marked the occasion with balloons and fanfare. Mr Quinn came to the library on the following Monday at lunchtime and read from one of his favourite childhood books by A. A. Milne. In the National Year of Reading we are all encouraged to be reading models for students and to share our love of reading.
Care of books
Children need to return their library books on their library day each week. Books should be kept in a safe place at home and carried to and from school in a library bag to keep them safe. Help your child to accept responsibility for remembering to return books on the right day.
Access to our library catalogue
If you or your child want to view the library catalogue at home, you can log on to the DEC Portal at http://student.det.nsw.edu.au. Your child can then log in with their DEC user name and internet password and by selecting ‘School library' can then access our catalogue. The Premier's Reading Challenge can also be accessed in this way.
Parents and grandparents in the library
Parents and grandparents are welcome to come to the library and browse in the collection. There is also the opportunity to help with putting away or covering books. Just after 9.25am or the half hour before 3.25pm is a good time. We look forward to seeing you some time soon in the library.
Library Monitors
Year 5 students are invited to become library monitors. They take on a leadership role and assist the students who come to the library at lunchtimes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Year 6 students are also welcome to be library monitors.
