NSW Junior Chess League

The NSW Junior Chess League's Primary Schools Competition is a teams competition for primary schools throughout New South Wales.

The competition is organised on a regional basis, with each region being divided into geographical zones for ease of access between schools, and subdivided further, if necessary, into divisions.

There are three grades in the competition – Championship, Intermediate and Rookies – to cater for players from experienced to novice levels. The winners in local Championship divisions go on to compete in finals against other divisional winners in the zone, then the region; regional champions will be invited to compete for the State title. The Rookies level is intended to give novice players the experience and fun of playing against other schools and there are no "finals" for this or the Intermediate levels.

Matches are scheduled on a home-and-away basis and are usually played on Fridays after school in the library. The competition starts in second term and the divisional rounds conclude by early in third term, with the finalists progressing after that (into fourth term if they continue to be successful).

The 2011 competition is due to commence on Friday, week 2, term 2.
