Chess Club

We meet on a Monday morning between 8am and 9am in the school Library. A tutor from the Sydney Academy of Chess comes each week to facilitate the games and give a tutorial about various facets of play. For parents, the commitment is $80 payable through flexischools, plus, at some stage during the term, coming to be a supervisor for one session. It is great fun and the students who participate tend to benefit from the opportunity to play a variety of people. If anyone would like to join, send me an email or just turn up next Monday 14th of February at 8.

Chess Tournament

Sydney Academy of Chess will be running a chess tournament at Dobroyd Point Public School. It will be held on Thursday, 1st December, 2011, from 9:25am – 1:50pm (lunch break from 11:30am – 12:30pm).

The tournament will be run as a Swiss, with approximately 7 games. This means that all children play in all the rounds and no one is knocked out.

There will be trophies awarded for the highest 3 scorers, medals presented as age prizes, as well as a perpetual trophy for the school with the name of each year's winner engraved on it. Each child playing will also receive a participation certificate. There will also be encouragement awards, depending on the number of entries.

The cost of participation in the tournament is $16.50. Cheques are to be made payable to Sydney Academy of Chess.

If you are interested in your child taking part in this activity, please fill in the attached note below and return it to the school office. Numbers are limited so to avoid disappointment, please ensure the notes are returned no later than Monday, 28th November, 2011.
